One Tree Hill

23 06 2007

Ok, I’ve gone and done it again, and neglected the website. Maybe a photo a day was rather ambitious, especially considering that I’ve essentially stopped taking photos for a while now. Anyway, I thought I’d try posting something (again) at least once in a few days, and this time, with stories behind it too to keep the interest going.

One Tree Hill

So, I was up at One Tree Hill today (yes, there’s a place called that around here, and I don’t think it’s related to the TV show). And this photo probably deserves the name :) This was taken about 8:30AM out in the cold, I think it was about 7 or 8 degrees Celcius when I was there. Very windy too.*

I like this shot quite a bit, because it depicts the location well. The tracks you see are cattle tracks leading the eye diagonally across to over the hill. Taken with a long lens to compress the perspective, there’s a double horizon, which gives it a surreal, almost flat effect like an abstract piece. Hope you like it as much as I do :)

* Aside, South Australia is undergoing a cold snap recently with these few days being the coldest ever this year and for a while. Temperatures going as low as -5 degrees (yes, sub-zero) in some places..
